Tips For Troubleshooting Your Internet Connection

With so many smart home devices, video-streaming services, online gaming platforms, and other internet access devices, a strong internet connection is more important than ever before. The same technology we depend on every day can experience lag and even connection problems due to oversaturation of the internet or less than comprehensive internet services. 

If it takes forever for your web pages to load or download music is almost impossible, you can do a few things to troubleshoot your internet connection before contacting your local service provider. Follow these tips, and chances are you’ll be up and running at optimum capacity in no time. 

Switch To Another Device

First, make sure the device you are using to access the internet is not the problem. If you are experiencing an issue while using your laptop, switch to another device and attempt to access the internet from it. If the problem only happens on one device, you can narrow down the causes to that particular machine; if it occurs on all devices, you have a broader issue at hand. 

Check Wi-Fi Connection 

At this stage, you should check your Wi-Fi connection and ensure that you are connected to the appropriate SSID using the correct password. You can use the program you are running to select its Troubleshooting Problems tab and run a network diagnostic routine. Also, check the network adapter and make sure it is connected to the correct gateway. Just by doing this, the problem may correct itself, and you will be back up and running like normal without further issue. 

Assess Your Internet Package

If your internet is working yet is very slow, it could be due to your internet package. You can check your internet package by comparing the number of megabits per second your computer is experiencing. The ISP you use should provide a speed test to determine if you are receiving the speeds that you pay for, giving you the option for upgrading to a faster package if necessary. 

Address Any Blinking Lights

If you cannot connect to the internet at all, look at your router and modem to see if any lights are blinking or off. Both devices should have LED status indicators that should be lit; if not, check to make sure they are appropriately plugged up. You can disconnect the power cord and reconnect it after a few minutes to see if this refreshes the devices and fixes the problem.

If all of your troubleshooting doesn’t correct your internet problems, contact your ISP for further solutions.
